The Port of Chancay, developed by COSCO SHIPPING, is set to revolutionize maritime logistics in South America. Strategically located just 65 kilometers north of Callao, Chancay is destined to become a world-class logistics hub, efficiently connecting the West Coast of South America with Asia. The phrase “From Chancay to Shanghai” has already become a symbol of innovation and progress in the shipping and trading sectors.
State-of-the-Art Infrastructure
In its first phase, the Port of Chancay will feature four berths:
- Two dedicated to containers.
- Two multi-purpose berths, totaling 1,500 meters of docking space.
This advanced infrastructure will handle significant volumes:
- 1 million TEUs annually.
- 6 million tons of general and bulk cargo.
- 160,000 vehicles per year.
Additionally, the port includes covered warehouses with a capacity of 32,000 tons, open storage areas for 11,000 tons, and a nearly 2-kilometer tunnel connecting the port directly to the Pan-American Highway. This bypass minimizes urban traffic and ensures streamlined logistics.
Innovation and Sustainability at the Forefront
Chancay stands out not only for its operational capacity but also for its commitment to sustainability. Equipped with electric container cranes and advanced handling equipment, the port sets a new benchmark for environmentally responsible operations.
The multi-purpose berths are also equipped with cutting-edge technology, including 30 m³ grab cranes and modern hoppers, ensuring efficiency in bulk cargo handling.
Direct Connection to Shanghai
COSCO SHIPPING has launched two direct shipping routes between Chancay and Shanghai, reducing transit times to just 22-24 days. This enhanced connectivity positions Chancay as a strategic hub for container exports and vehicle distribution in the region, significantly boosting Peru’s role in global trade.
A New Opportunity for Global Trade
The Port of Chancay represents a unique opportunity to optimize supply chains and strengthen the competitiveness of Peruvian businesses in international markets. With operating costs similar to those of Callao and an infrastructure designed for high-demand operations, this project redefines the logistics landscape in South America.
A Boost to Regional Trade
For Peruvian and South American companies, the Port of Chancay represents a unique opportunity to optimize their supply chains. Its capacity to handle large volumes of cargo and its focus on competitive costs make it a strategic ally to strengthen competitiveness in international markets.
Perspectives from the Maritime Agency
As a maritime agency, we see Chancay as a development that will transform commercial dynamics in the region. This port not only optimizes routes and transit times but also raises the standards of efficiency and sustainability in maritime logistics.
